Before joining Walker Heye, Brian was a partner in the Tri-Cities law firm of Rettig, Forgette, Iller and Bowers and its predecessors since 1989. Brian graduated from Hanford High School in Richland, Washington, received a B.A. in Political Science from Western Washington University with minors in Philosophy, English, and History. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law, graduating in 1986.

Brian has been deeply involved in irrigated agriculture issues since the early 1990s, including pesticide injuries, pesticide non-performance, commodities disputes, employment and environmental compliance. He has represented public irrigation districts and private irrigators. He has also been extensively involved in Endangered Species Act issues on the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima Rivers. He was one of the attorneys CSRIA v. Department of Ecology, which resulted in the first new consumptive water rights permits for Columbia River water in a decade.

Brian has deep experience of public records law, open public meetings law, public employment law, and other municipal issues from his representation of public irrigation districts, public utility districts, library districts, school administrators, and hospital districts and administrators. He has also practiced employment law for both employees and employers, and has presented on employment issues at continuing legal education seminars.

Brian enjoys skiing, hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Brian lives in Richland with his partner of 20 years Mary and spends as much time as possible with his adult children.
